Cancellations, Credits, & Refunds

Water Tots does not offer refunds under any circumstances, including inclement weather unless there is thunder and lightning. Once you have enrolled in a swim class and made payment, your fees are non-refundable, regardless of the reason for cancellation. This policy applies to all circumstances, including, but not limited to, personal scheduling conflicts, medical issues, relocation, or any other unforeseen circumstances.

We understand life happens! In the event you do need to cancel, Water Tots provides each family with 3 credits to use for a makeup class during the season. Credits do not rollover from season to season. If you cancel or miss a class for any reason, you may choose to use your credit to schedule a makeup class. We cannot guarantee your makeup class will be held on the same day as your regularly scheduled class.

In rare and extreme cases, such as a documented medical emergency that prevents participation throughout the entire session, we may consider a credit for a future session. Such cases will be evaluated on an individual basis and require proper documentation. Requests must be submitted to watertotsla@gmail.com for review. All refunds are at the discretion of Water Tots.

Unenrolling from our swim classes is a simple process. To proceed, please reach out to watertotsla@gmail.com, and provide your full name, the participant’s name, and the specific class you wish to unenroll from. Unenrollment is final, and our classes operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Once your spot in the class is vacated, it may be filled by another participant, and we cannot guarantee availability should you decide to re-enroll at a later date. Please consider your decision carefully, as enrollment fees are non-refundable, in accordance with our policy.

Water Tots LA reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel enrollment, for any lawful reason.

A lesson may be canceled if a teacher must be out last minute and there is no substitute teacher.

Should we cancel if my child has the sniffles?

We do not consider a runny nose as a cause for cancellation. However, if your child shows symptoms like a fever then, yes, we recommend you cancel as far in advance as possible.

Classes

What is the difference between “water-safe” and “swimming”?

Being “water-safe” means:

  • Comfortably submerge head while holding breath
  • Able to lift head above water to breathe
  • Paddle and kick to instructor or an exit
  • Exit pool using steps or side
  • “Monkey crawl” to an exit
  • A basic understanding of different strokes

“Swimming” means:

  • Fully submerge head and hold breath underwater
  • Simultaneous kicking and paddling with face under water from the stairs to the instructor and back
  • Eyes are open underwater
  • Learning the first steps of lifting head to breathe

How long are classes?

Classes are one hour. If there is more than one student the time is divided up among multiple students.

Lessons are one-on-one. We believe children thrive when they have our full attention. One-on-one instruction ensures the safest possible environment and allows us to focus entirely on your child’s individual needs

How many children in each class?

  • Turtle and Starfish classes: 2 swimmers max
  • Dolphin class: 6 swimmers max

How should we prepare for our class?

  • In accordance with the American Red Cross and the US Water Fitness Association guidelines, the pool should be heated to a minimum of 90 degrees. The pool should be a welcoming environment, a place of comfort for your child, and mimicking a warm bath is a gentle way of achieving this goal.
  • Floaties and goggles are not allowed. We suggest that prior to your first class, try to lessen their use while you and your child spend time together in the pool outside of class.
  • Slather up with sunscreen! Protect your little one with sunscreen on all exposed skin, taking care to avoid the eyes. We highly encourage rash guards with SPF (we wear them too!).
  • Be positive! Kids look to their parents and caregivers for direction. When you express excitement and enthusiasm for swimming often your child will too. After lessons, positive reinforcement is everything. Let them know how proud you are of them for their effort and progress.

What do I do if my child refuses to get into the water?

This is a common and natural response to swim lessons and one that we are prepared for. Remember that your child is facing a new adventure and, understandably, that can come with anxiety. This is where emotional growth really comes into play. Our priority is to make them feel safe and heard because building trust is a delicate, gradual process. We talk calmly with them, bring toys, play games, appeal to their sense of curiosity, and never force them into the water. As they grow familiar with us, they make the decision to come in on their own. This is a team effort so if your child gets out of the water and runs, gently take their hand, and guide them back. Your attitude and trust in us are just as important because your child takes cues from you. Have faith in the process and in your child’s resilience.

Do parents or siblings participate in the lesson?

No. Parents do not participate in lessons. We’ve found the presence of parents or siblings in the water is often distracting to both the swimmer and the instructor.
